Residents in Hardwick West have a new representative on Banbury Town Council after a by-election. The vote, which took place on Tuesday 4 September following the retirement of longstanding Councillor John Donaldson, was won by Conservative Party candidate David Beverly.
The results were announced in Hardwick Community Centre just before 11.30pm on the day of poll with local resident David winning the seat beating the Labour Party candidate and Cherwell District Councillor Cassi Perry.
Full results:
David Frederick Beverly, The Conservative Party: 824
Cassi Perry, Labour Party: 489
Turnout was 22.2%.
Speaking after the results were announced David said: “I am thrilled to have been elected as the Councillor for Hardwick West. I sincerely thank all those residents who supported me and the great team of volunteers who helped with my campaign. It was a real pleasure to meet so many residents on the doorsteps and talk to them, not just about their concerns, but also their aspirations for their families and our town. I am excited to get started.”
The results of the election mean that the Conservatives remain the controlling Party on Banbury Town Council.
Council Leader, Councillor Kieron Mallon commented: “I am pleased to welcome David to the Conservative team on Banbury Town Council. At 26, it is great to have another young Conservative representative on the Council. I have no doubt David will be an active local Councillor and look forward to working with him on his priorities for Hardwick.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank John Donaldson for his service to the town particularly during his year as Banbury’s Mayor.”
