Hawkstone Properties, the developers behind Castle Quay II have today released plans for the £50 million canal-side development.
The expansion of Castle Quay has long been in the pipeline with a new cinema, supermarket and restaurants all proposed within the development. We now know that the 1300-seat multiplex cinema will be run by The Light Cinema, Lidl will occupy the supermarket space while Premier Inn is opening a 117-bedroom hotel and restaurant. Four of the six canal-side restaurants will be filled by Zizzi, Nando’s, Handmade Burger Company and Chiquito’s, with two more yet to be named.
Banbury Conservatives excitedly welcomed the plans: “Castle Quay II will be a huge boost to Banbury town centre. A mix of old and new – Castle Quay II will breathe new life into our retail experience and also Banbury’s night-time economy whilst still retaining our town’s heritage with the historical canal-side providing a unique backdrop. We, just like Banbury’s residents, eagerly wait for the plans to turn into bricks and mortar”.
CQ II’s construction is set to begin this autumn with completion in late 2018.
