An £8 million investment from Cherwell District Council has breathed new life into a town centre property that has been vacant for 26 years. The Conservative-controlled Council took on ownership of Crown House in October 2017 and embarked on an ambitious regeneration project which has seen the original building extended and remodelled into 51 modern one and two-bedroom apartments.
Spanning four floors each apartment has been kitted out with a fridge freezer, oven hob and extractor and washing machine. Residents will also benefit from solar-panelled roofs and secure permit-parking, complete with electric charging points. Rent on the properties starts from £625pcm for a studio apartment.
Banbury Conservatives said: “It is fantastic to see the District Council’s work at Crown House come to fruition. There is a whole generation of Banbury residents who will have only ever known this to be a redundant brownfield site. This exciting restoration will not only be a boost for our town centre but will also provide affordable living in a desirable location.”
The District Council’s redevelopment of Crown House is just one of several projects the Council has invested in in and around Banbury town centre and the canal-side the flagship being the £60 million leisure extension to Castle Quay shopping centre.
