A vital Banbury community centre has reopened its doors following a complete rebuild of the facility commissioned by Cherwell District Council. The new Hill Youth and Community Centre on Bretch Hill in Ruscote will provide a vibrant and varied programme of sports, educational and youth activities as well as outreach support for local families.
The cost of the new centre was funded by a £600,000 investment from Conservative-controlled Cherwell District Council together with £350,000 of National Lottery funding from Sport England. Banbury Charities and Conservative-controlled Banbury Town Council each contributed £10,000 to the project with the remaining £80,000 coming from Section 106 contributions which are monies paid by developers of local housing projects to fund amenities in the community.
Banbury Conservatives said: “The Hill is an important and popular resource. By commissioning this rebuild, the Council did not just invest in a new centre, but also in the surrounding community and the residents of Banbury. We appreciate that the works took longer than anticipated, and thank the local community for their patience, but it has been a facility worth waiting for.”
