Hardwick Councillors had a tour of the bungalows on Banesberie Close today to see first-hand the start of extensive restoration works following a transfer of ownership to local housing association provider Sanctuary Housing.
For several years the 21 properties, only 6 of which are occupied, had fallen into a state of disrepair with the condition of the disused, boarded-up units attracting anti-social behaviour. Labour-run Lambeth Council spent nearly 3 years finalising the transfer, delaying the start of much-needed refurbishments.
With work now taking place to ensure the bungalows are bought back up to standard, local Councillor John Donaldson commented: “I am grateful to Sanctuary Housing for showing us round today and for promptly embarking on this important project. The improvement works will be transformative for the community and I’m sure will be welcomed by all those who live locally.”
