Following local media reports speculating on the future of Banbury Police Station, prompted by an upcoming motion to Council from Banbury Labour Councillors, constituency MP Victoria Prentis wrote to Thames Valley Police to seek assurances about their plans for the site.
She confirmed their response in a letter to the local press, the full text of which reads:
“Sir,
I was extremely concerned to read reports of the alleged closure of Banbury Police Station in a recent edition of the paper. However, I have since sought assurances from Francis Habgood, Chief Constable of Thames Valley Police, who has told me that:
“There is no substance to the rumours! Banbury is important as a local station, but we also house a number of force assets there and this offers greater opportunities around employment in that area. We did raise concerns about the closure of the Magistrates Court and will have to see what the impact is in due course. Banbury Police Station has a long-term future!”
Banbury Police Station is a valuable community asset separate to the Magistrates’ Court and will not be closing. Any suggestion otherwise is scaremongering.”
