North Oxfordshire residents are set to benefit from a new partnership between Cherwell District Council and British Cycling.
The year-long collaboration will see elite professionals from the sport’s national governing body help develop local initiatives to encourage people of all ages and abilities to take up cycling or get back in the saddle.
Projects include female-only guided rides, free BMX sessions at Banbury Skate Park for under 16s, free family bike skill sessions, and the development of cycle training in schools to give teachers the opportunity to lead sessions with their pupils.
Existing activities will also continue, such as the free bicycle servicing scheme, Dr Bike, and the FAST bike programme, which offers free second-hand bicycles to qualifying families. The first leg of the Women's Tour cycling race will also bring an array of exciting opportunities to Cherwell, with community events planned for the lead-up to the Bicester to Banbury stage on Monday 4 October.
