Woodgreen Leisure Centre in Banbury reopened today following a £1.2 million refurbishment. The project, funded by Conservative-controlled Cherwell District Council, has expanded the facility to include a new 50-station gym suite, spin and dance studios and enlarged changing rooms.
Investment in the ‘dry side’ of Woodgreen follows a £1.5 million regeneration of the ‘wet side’ and the open-air pool in 2012.
On the renovation, Conservative Cross and Neithrop District Councillor Alastair Milne-Home said: “The centre looks wonderful. I am a frequent user of the open-air pool and am delighted that the District Council has invested equally in the dry side. This refurbishment means that Banbury residents now have access to state-of-the-art leisure facilities across the town and I am confident that this new centre will have lots of use.”
As well as the new gym facilities, a new café and new library have opened on the site. The library, which will be run by Oxfordshire County Council, will open at the same time as the leisure facilities for book withdrawals, returns and reading.
Local Conservative County Council candidate David Beverly says: “The new library is a great facility and so accessible. Having these flexible opening times is a real innovative step – a first for the County Council – which together with free parking makes it so accessible. I encourage all local residents to take advantage of this.”
