Over 1800 small businesses in the Cherwell District have received cash grants to help lessen the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. Under a comprehensive support package announced by the Government, small businesses in England that pay little or no business rates are entitled to a one-off cash grant of £10,000, whilst businesses in the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors with a rateable value of under £51,000 are entitled to a one-off cash grant of up to £25,000.
Local authorities have been charged with the payment of these grants and, as of last week, Cherwell District Council has paid out over £24 million to local SME’s.
The Small Business Grant Fund (SGBF) is a lifeline for all those businesses that have been forced to close or significantly reduce trading as a result of the coronavirus. We want to see lots of them bounce back as successfully as possible once this difficult period has passed – these grants are an important cash injection to helping them achieve that.
