Conservative-controlled Cherwell District Council has successfully secured £215,000 to help families in Grimsbury, Hardwick, Neithrop and Ruscote access fitness and recreational activities.
The funding comes from a £40 million National Lottery pot that Sport England has dedicated to helping families get active together and will enable the Council to deliver cut-price rates at Woodgreen Leisure Centre and outdoor swimming pool, and a programme of summer and after-school activities. Families with children aged 11 or younger will be able to take advantage of the offers, which are to be launched in the coming months.
"Cherwell District Council is committed to helping residents lead healthier lives. Banbury has already seen big improvements to its leisure facilities, including the £17 million development of Spiceball Leisure Centre and £2.7 million worth of upgrades to Woodgreen Leisure Centre. Both Cherwell District Council and Banbury Town Council continue to subside swims at the town's unique open-air pool. This new funding is rightly being directed to the parts of Banbury which need it most and we're confident it will have a positive impact on the physical and mental health of local families." - Banbury Conservatives.
Cherwell has received support for the project from The Centre for Sustainable Healthcare, Sanctuary Housing, Oxfordshire County Council and Legacy Leisure.
