10-Council owned properties including local leisure centres will become more environmentally friendly after Cherwell District Council secured a £6 million Government decarbonisation grant.
Bicester Leisure Centre, Kidlington Leisure Centre, Spiceball Leisure Centre and Woodgreen Leisure Centre in Banbury, Drayton Pavilion, Stratfield Brake Sports Pavilion in Kidlington, Whitelands Farm Sports Pavilion in Bicester, Thorpe Lane Depot, Banbury Museum and Franklins House in Bicester will all benefit from green improvements including air source heat pumps, insulation and lighting upgrades, and solar PV linked to battery storage.
It is estimated that these 10 buildings currently account for around 69% of the Council’s carbon emissions but that the improvements will reduce its carbon footprint by up to 1,021 tonnes of CO2e or 25%.
The retrofit project is scheduled to be completed before the end of this year.
