Councillors representing north Bicester are calling on Oxfordshire County Council to pause controversial plans to redevelop Banbury Road roundabout.
Councillors Donna Ford (Oxfordshire County Council), Jason Slaymaker (Cherwell District Council), Nick Mawer (Cherwell District Council) and Lynn Pratt (Cherwell District Council) are urging Liberal Democrat-led Oxfordshire County Council to pause their plans to convert the Banbury Road roundabout into a crossroad after their proposed design was roundly rejected by residents.
Speaking together Donna, Jason, Nick and Lynn said: “We know that infrastructure is key for our town to manage its growth. We have been campaigning for improvements for many years but the proposals for the redevelopment of Banbury Road roundabout that Oxfordshire County Council are pursuing do not have the support of the majority of local residents. The Liberal Democrat, Labour and Green alliance at County Hall has ignored the bulk of the feedback from the consultation.
We urge the alliance to go back to the drawing board and think again about the project.
There is a frustrating irony here that the County Council is pressing ahead with a scheme that residents largely do not want having reallocated funding earmarked for the realignment of Howes Lane, a project which has almost universal local support.
The realignment of the A4095 will genuinely improve traffic flow in our part of Bicester and will divert cars away from residential properties on Bure Park and Howes Lane that continue to be affected by noise, vibrations and pollution. Securing new funding to bring this significant piece of infrastructure to fruition remains one of our top priorities.”
