Cherwell residents will pay not a penny extra for District Council services over the next year after the Council announced its 9th consecutive tax freeze.
This 0% increase means Cherwell's share of residents' total tax bill remains at £123.50 per annum for band D properties – a figure first set in 2009. Weighed against the effect of inflation, this represents another real terms price cut.
Councillor Tony Ilott, Cherwell’s lead member for Finance, said: “With the decision to freeze its share of the Council Tax yet again, Cherwell is showing that it is determined to deliver the high-quality services our residents need without forcing them to pay more. The Council is on solid financial ground and we will continue to be responsible with taxpayers' money."
Despite the 0% change in Council Tax, the Conservative-controlled Council has:
- Delivered a £70 million investment in Bicester's Pioneer Square and has committed to a £60 million expansion of Castle Quay in Banbury in a big boost for our town centres.
- Been at the heart of the local campaign to restore the Horton General Hospital’s obstetric-led maternity unit bringing a Judicial Review against the Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning group over their inadequate local healthcare consultation.
- Delivered over 190 affordable homes through its award-winning Build! project.
- Invested £25 million in the District’s sport and leisure facilities in recent years, including the recently-opened £5 million Whitelands Farm Sports Ground in Bicester.
- Put the environment first with 57% of household waste recycled. As a result, Cherwell is in the top 10% of Councils for recycling nationally.
