Having been contacted by an increasing number of residents about inconsiderate parking and traffic concerns on residential streets close to the town centre, local Councillor Eddie Reeves has launched a petition to Oxfordshire County Council to ask that urgent consideration be given to schemes that would improve residents parking provision, reduce traffic speeds, and expand local active travel options.
Eddie has written to residents on Bath Road, Beargarden Road, Berrymoor Road, Bloxham Road (part), Broughton Road, Crouch Street, Gilkes Yard, Hornbeam Close, Milton Road, New Road, West Bar Street, and Westbeech Court to inform them of his campaign and ask for their support.
In his letter, he outlines a variety of different proposals to tackle inconsiderate parking and make roads in the area safer for residents, pedestrians, and cyclists. These include residents parking schemes, safety measures at the Broughton-Bath Road junction to slow traffic and improve visibility, a 20 mph zone from Banbury Cross to Queensway including Bath Road, Beargarden Road, West Bar Street, Broughton Road, and Crouch Street and no cut-through restrictions and/or a properly planned one-way system on Bath Road and Crouch Street to end rat-running without disadvantaging residents.
Eddie says: “Traffic and parking problems in Banbury are an increasing problem for town centre residents, who are too often overlooked by the Council. I am campaigning to put local people first and so have written to residents asking them to support my petition. I have put forward several ideas to help tackle local parking issues, address traffic speeds, and push ahead with Active Travel schemes that will encourage more of us to walk and cycle.
As a town centre resident myself, I understand the importance of these issues to this community and have already been raising residents’ concerns with Highways Officers but this petition will help strengthen our argument. My priority continues to be the safety of residents and local road users."
