Association events are resuming! As with most things our activities had to be paused due to the coronavirus pandemic and whilst we currently remain unable to hold in-person events, we are embracing the virtual trend for our next CPF discussion evening – “Behind Labour’s Red Wall”.
In December’s General Election the Conservative Party secured a staggering 80-seat majority thanks largely to extraordinary successes by Conservative candidates in ex-Labour heartlands. One such candidate was Richard Holden who won the Labour stronghold of North West Durham for the first time since the constituency’s creation in 1950.
Prior to the Covid shutdown, Richard had kindly agreed to join our members for a special session to talk to us about the collapse of Labour’s Red Wall and the election from his perspective, as well as his time as an MP so far.
We have now arranged to move this event online and invite all to join us for this interesting discussion. It will give us a unique insight into the nature of the now renamed ‘Blue Wall’ and the challenges, and opportunities, for the Party in these seats moving forward.
The event will take place via zoom on Thursday 3 September at 7pm.
For those wanting to attend, please register via [email protected] whereupon the login details will be provided.
For those unfamiliar with Zoom, it is an online application used for virtual meetings and events and can be used across a variety of different platforms including desktops, iPads and mobile phones. Participants only need an email address and a device with a camera and a microphone to get involved.
To ensure participants have the confidence to freely express their views, this discussion will be subject to Chatham House Rules.
We are hopeful that, should this event be successful, we will host others of this kind via online platforms in the coming months.
We very much hope to ‘see’ you on 3 September.
